   How is iron powder formed? Among the production methods of iron powder, reduction method and atomization method are the main production methods. Since iron powder was used in powder metallurgy industry in the early 1930s, there have been many production methods of iron powder. For various technical and economic reasons, many of them have never exceeded the experimental or pilot test stage, such as the chemical metallurgy method of reducing ferrous chloride with hot hydrogen; other methods, such as vortex mechanical grinding, aqueous solution electrolysis, fluidized bed hydrogen reduction, rotating disk atomization Liquid steel process, air atomized liquid pig iron process and combined reduction process of transforming natural gas and solid carbon have experienced relatively short-term industrial application, and then they are no longer used in the industrial production of iron powder due to other more competitive methods.




As for the iron powder produced by carbonyl method (see carbonyl method), because of its fine particles and expensive price, it is not suitable for sintering mechanical parts and welding electrodes; however, it has high purity and special particle structure, showing excellent performance. The current iron powder production processes that dominate the iron powder market are: hegnas method and pylon method, water atomization method of low carbon steel liquid, high purity QMP and R for ball milling and decarburization process of pig iron shot peening, in which the production of iron powder by hegnas method and water atomization method is dominant.
